Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to pass the theory test before having lessons?
The simple answer is No. You can start your driving lessons as soon as you have your provisional licence. You should be encouraged to pass your theory as soon as is practicable. HSM provides FREE training materials to help you pass your theory. Your instructor can also offer personal assistance, should you wish. Studying for and passing your theory test not only means you will have more knowledge when out on your lessons, it will mean that should you be in a position to take a test earlier than expected, a test can be booked.
How many Driving Lessons will I need?
There are no minimum or maximum number of lessons you need to pass the UK Driving Test. Everyone is different. People learn at their own pace and in a style to suit them. As a guide, according to the DVSA statistics the average amount of lessons to be test ready is around 40 hours.
When do I pay for my Driving lessons?
When your lesson(s) date and time have been agreed with your instructor, you will need to pay for the number of hours Required no later than 48 hours prior to your first lesson. You can pay for your lessons via direct bank transfer, via the HSM Website or via the Student Total Drive app.
Can I cancel a lesson?
Yes, you can always cancel a lesson. However, we do ask for 48 hours notice so we can offer that slot to another student. If we receive less that 48 hours notice, we may have to charge for that lesson.
When can I book a Driving Test
You can book a test at any time with our Instructors. However, they will discuss with you when you are ready and confident in passing the Driving Test.
What clothing should I wear for my driving lesson?
You should be comfortable. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we will have the car windows open to provide additional ventilation. This may make the internal temperature of the car different to normal.
Will I need to wear a face covering during lessons?
Yes, you will be required to wear a face covering, unless you have an exemption as defined by any Government Guidance. More information can be found here.
